Free letters for gender affirming care
You know your gender better than anyone else, including me and your insurance company. I am happy to help you check this box so you can continue on your way toward the care you choose.
In conjunction with the Gender Affirming Letter Access Project, GALAP, I offer a free 50-minute appointment for anyone seeking a letter for gender affirming care.
These letters are often required by insurance companies for folks seeking gender affirming care. The appointment consists of a brief gender assessment and discussion of the gender affirming care you are seeking, after which I will write a letter and provide it to you. I offer these letter-writing appointments at no fee.
-
These appointments are free regardless of your insurance status, insurance company, or ability to pay. I don’t want to profit from a gatekeeping insurance requirement that pedestals my assessment of your gender.
-
Anyone 18 or older who is physically located in either CO or MI during the appointment.
-
Most insurances require information about the procedure(s) you are seeking, presence of a gender dysphoria diagnosis, and a determination that you understand the risks/benefits of the procedure(s). Each insurance company has unique requirements for letters, and these requirements differ across state, surgeon, and type of procedure.

You are welcome to select an in-person or virtual appointment. In-person appointments take place in my office in Denver. For a virtual appointment, you must be physically located in either CO or MI during the appointment.

You will receive online intake paperwork to complete via my health record system, SimplePractice. I recommend you review the intake forms well before your appointment, so you have time to complete the paperwork. You may need to contact your insurance company to inquire about their letter requirements in order to complete my intake paperwork.
I require you to complete the paperwork 48 hours before your letter-writing appointment. If it is not complete 48 hours before, I will email you to prompt you to complete the paperwork. If it is not complete 24 hours before, I will cancel the appointment, and you are welcome to reschedule.
Please arrive within 15 minutes of the scheduled appointment time.
-
I request your name, gender, pronouns, insurance company, and desired procedure(s).
-
These appointments are not for therapy—they are intended only for letter-writing.
Most often, only one 50-minute appointment is required. If I need to schedule a follow up appointment with you, I will let you know during the appointment.
I cannot guarantee that I can provide you with a letter after the appointment, though the vast majority of the time I will. If I cannot to write a letter for you, I will provide referrals for other clinicians.
-
If you provide the letter to your insurance company and it is denied, I recommend you contact your insurance company to inquire about any additional information needed in the letter. I will revise the letter and provide you with an updated one. You are responsible for any/all communication with your insurance company.
